Shining Barleria is a shrub with ovate to elliptic
leaves which are shortly tapering at both ends, nearly hairless above,
3.5-5 cm long. Shining white flowers are borne in one-sided spilkes.
Bracteoles are elliptic or ovate, nearly as long as the sepals. Outer
sepals are shining, toothed and fringed with hairs. Flowers are about
2.5 cm across, white tinged with blue. Flower-tube is up to 4 cm long,
slender, expanded above. Capsules are ovoid, up to 17 x 6 mm,
compresed, beaked. Shining Barleria is found in Peninsular India.
Medicinal uses: Leaf paste is used externally
to reduce swellings.
